Before heading onto how, let me first throw some light on what is monochromatic outfit. Monochromatic is a word that is made of ‘mono’ meaning single and ‘chromatic’ meaning color. So if one is wearing a single colored outfit from top to toe, it can be called as monochromatic outfit. But when I say single color, it does not necessarily mean the solid single color that has to be worn. A pleasing monochromatic outfit is basically a combination of shades of single color. When you combine pieces of clothing and accessories say a top, a belt, a skirt, shoes, bag, etc all in the same color but in different tones, it makes a beautiful monochromatic look. I feel we have played enough with contrasts and it’s time to dive in a single colored outfit. What say fashionistas? Would you too love to?
Though I strongly believe that there is no rule to fashion and it completely depends on how well you can pull off an outfit or a look, yet when wearing a monochromatic outfit, there are certain pointers that one should follow…
Firstly: Choose a color that suits your skin tone – that will enhance your look all the more.
Secondly: Try to mix plain with textures and patterns – Not that you can go wrong with plain on plain but if you try to merge the plain with patterns like prints or plaids, it can definitely stand out better.
Now coming onto my monochromatic outfit, I am contradicting my own statement by wearing plain maroon top on plain maroon leggings. Yet this plain on plain looks good as I am wearing a one shoulder top. The one sided bare shoulder is giving an apt edge to the overall look. Also since it’s one shoulder top, I have worn a choker again in the same color, maroon, with a touch of antique gold that’s completing the outfit beautifully. I have always fantasized a side low bun on one shoulder top for it looks really graceful, if neatly done. Since my hair is tied up in a side bun, I am wearing a huge pair of maroon colored square shaped stud earrings. That’s making my earrings and the hair-do complement each other. I have almost wrapped myself in a sleek look from hairdo to the leggings, so to balance the sleek out, I am wearing a ruffle top which is giving the much needed bounce along with a pair of pumps having a huge bow on it. The ruffles and the bows are perfectly balancing everything sleek about the look. I hope you would like to experiment with monochromatic outfits after reading this post. Makeup & hair Artist: My one and only favorite, Maria, has done more to the look what I have ever imagined. The side bun along with the edgy make up especially the eyes have been done so beautifully and flawlessly that I am not able to get over the look yet.
