A Pune based Interior Designer by training, Monika Chordia turned to Fashion designing in 2008. On graduating, she launched her labels under the name, Monika and Papillio until Praan:t was born. Praan:t celebrates, preserves and promotes the remarkable aesthetics and craftsmanship of regional artisans across India. Through Praan:t, Monika seeks to provide sustainable employment to the various craft communities of India, preserving India’s rich heritage in the process. Work has already begun to bring some of India’s handlooms to life, starting with exclusively-woven Chanderi fabric from Madhya Pradesh, exquisite hand block-printed textiles from Gujarat, and vibrant dyeing and embroidery techniques from Rajasthan.
I feel extremely fortunate to be showcasing her Spring/Summer 2018 collection which is made from Kala Cotton and Khadi Matka fabrics that originate from the by-lanes of Bhuj and west Bengal respectively. The kala Cotton is specifically used to design day wear outfits giving it subtle and earthen tones while Khadi Matka owing to their bright hues has been used to create stylish evening wear outfits. You will find me donning one look each from both the fabrics. I am in love with the conteporary touch she gives to every outfit that’s designed by her. It relates to modern crowd as much as to Indian. I would recommend to all the Pune-ites to go check her collection to fulfil your desire for not-so regular outfits.
